Hello to club members and a belated Happy New Year to you all.
The Club has been quite active over the past two months including some 70 juniors and their parents participating in the two fishing clinics held in January in conjunction with the annual Moyneyana Festival. Juniors were given tuition in fishing on the Moyne and received a package of items to assist with their future fishing. Some Mullet and a few Australian Salmon were caught during the clinics on both Saturdays. Many thanks to June and Kirian Dalton, Russ Allardice, Noel Schiltz and Neil Ordner for volunteering their time to assist.
The Clubhouse accommodation was well patronised over the past two months and a number of families were visiting Port Fairy for the first time. Many said that they will make a return, hopefully, to rehire our accommodation.
Several new members joined in January which was great to see and welcome to you all. I'm sure our junior anglers had a fantastic time during the school holidays, and more than likely couldn't wait to get down to the river to test out that new road and reel on Christmas morning. Good luck with your schooling in 2005.
Our all night fishing competition in January proved to be highly popular with members that fished, and produced some good catches of Snapper, Salmon, Sweep, Couta and Flathead. An exceptional Salmon was caught by Sunshine member, Danny Gomez, whilst fishing from the bank at the mouth of the Moyne. This fish weighed 3.7 kgs and was caught around 8:30 pm on the Saturday night. Naturally, Danny was most excited with such a fine catch. Very well done, Danny.
The Christmas function was once again held at The Club's premises on Saturday, the 18th of December. About 80 persons attended and a cricket match for young and old alike was an added attraction. Once again, the casting competition was very popular. A smorgasbord dinner was available at 6pm and appeared to be well received by all and sundry. As is usual, Santa put in an appearance arriving in the Port Fairy Fire Brigade truck, and passed on to the kids their presents, lollies and an ice cream. Many thanks to Peter Crosbie for driving the truck.
We have again successfully completed another annual summer raffle which is an important part of funds raising undertaken by members. However, as has often been stated, the executive of The Club would like to see a few more members prepared to help out mainly with our street sales when these raffles are held. I would also like to thank the various sponsors for the generosity in making available prizes for the raffle. Your on-going assistance with these raffles was and will always be most appreciated by the executive and the membership of this club. Congratulations to the prize winners and many thanks to our members for the buying/selling of tickets.
The Club took part in the New Year's Eve Procession of street floats. The Club had three boats involved in a nautical theme suggestive of river, surf and boat fishing. My special thanks to members whom helped out at very short notice.
All the best and in closing tight lines to you all. |
